I ventured into financial advisory in September 2022, driven by my personal experiences and a deep understanding of the crucial role financial literacy plays in our lives. Growing up in an average family where financial strains sometimes sparked arguments, I was exposed to the critical need for sound financial management early in my life. This realisation spurred me to delve deeply into financial literature and network with successful individuals to enhance my knowledge. Today, my passion lies in educating responsible adults about wealth management and conveying the true essence of money management, areas that I feel are often overlooked in a well-educated society like Singapore.

My career ambition is to impact 1,000 lives positively, a goal I believe is ambitious yet achievable. I aim to accomplish this not only individually but more significantly, through a community of competent advisors. Building a closely-knit team that excels in advising and growing together adds depth to this objective. Additionally, I aspire to rise to a leadership position before completing my university studies, enhancing my ability to influence and mentor effectively.

One valuable lesson I’ve learned is best summarised by Robert Kiyosaki: “It is never about how much you earn, but how much you keep.” This principle has shown me that financial habits often dictate an individual’s net worth more significantly than their earning capacity. Each consultation provides insights into practices that can steer an individual towards financial success, often leading to enriching post-consultation discussions about finance with peers.

What keeps me motivated is the belief that there is a greater purpose in everything I do. I enjoy gamifying my interactions, focusing more on the process than the outcomes, and cherish every opportunity to meet new people and add value to their lives. Surrounding myself with positive, driven individuals fuels my passion and growth, making each day rewarding.

For new financial consultants, it’s important to understand that while the term “Financial Advisor” is broad, it encompasses vital areas of expertise: Wealth Accumulation, Wealth Preservation, and Wealth Distribution. Excelling in these areas is key to not only being competent but also building a sustainable career. Remember, we are in a people business that thrives on providing practical, valuable financial advice beyond just selling products.

To those considering this profession, I advise taking a proactive approach to understand the industry fully. Join meetings, participate in appointments, and engage in company events to gain firsthand experience of the advisory landscape. This will help set realistic expectations and develop the necessary skills and mindset for a successful career in financial advisory.
