YAP BING HENG GENTSON

Growing up as an introvert, I experienced the hard knocks as a financial consultant when I used to do only roadshows and door knocks as a student advisor during my studies in Singapore Management University.

After 3 years of doing cold market prospecting that forced me out of my comfort zone, I finally gained the confidence I needed to become a full-time consultant, and have gone on to achieve the International Dragon Awards (“IDA”) – Bronze Dragon Award 2019 and 2020 (Agent Category), as well as Million Dollar Round Table memberships for consecutive 2 years in 2019 and 2020. I was also part of Singapore’s first 100 IDA team in history to achieve the 100 IDA Team Award 2019. On top of that, I am a member of the AIA Financial Advisers Prestige Titanium Club 2020 and has been awarded the title as Personal Wealth Manager of AIA High Net Worth Prestige Club 2020.

Understand and empathise with your clients.

As financial consultants, we need to empathise with our clients and understand what they are going through in order to figure out how best to help them. It is through empathetic listening that we can provide the best possible solutions, and it also helps me grow personally as a compassionate human being.

Paying it forward as a mentor.

In my early years, I was fortunate to have a good mentor who shaped me into the financial consultant I am today. I hope to be able to become a mentor myself, and help others succeed just as he did for me. After all, this job is about impacting lives.

Do the right thing, even when no one is looking.

That is why I live by the values of integrity, compassion and competence. No matter how professional we are at our jobs, we need a balance of these 3 values in order to do our jobs well, and in a respectable way.
