While I was serving my national service I faced a very undesirable situation where my dad, the sole breadwinner of the family, suffered from a stroke. At that point, I was at a loss on what to do but was saved by insurance, WILL and LPA that we had arranged before the incident. Through this experience, I realised I wanted to help families prepare for the worst situations, to help spouses, parents and even children, who might not know what to do when taking over the reins, especially in times of weakness, by guiding them so that the family as a whole would be able to continue functioning without too many compromises, especially financially and to afford additional help if needed. I would hope to give, at times of need, more than I have thankfully received and so in 2022, I joined AIA FA.

I wasn’t the brightest student academically. Back in secondary school, I remembered teachers giving up on me based on my results. However, I had one teacher who kept up with me and believed me throughout the years following secondary school and is now my client. Not only was I able to share my financial knowledge with him, but I also helped him go above and beyond with the entirety of his estate planning. Following his experience with me, this teacher of mine now shared that he too has learnt a great deal from me and felt indebted to me for sorting out many of his worries for his current plans and the future as he looks at retirement. Returning the favours and adding value to his life in return for all that he has provided me and the care that he has shown me throughout the years, is the greatest moment of my career so far. I hope to do the same for everyone that I have the opportunity to meet and create a ripple effect of kindness

My biggest inspiration is my friend, partner and mentor who has shown me the ropes ever since I joined the career. He was my senior when we were serving national service together in the police force. He taught me to put myself in the shoes of our clients and wholeheartedly help out with whatever we could as an extended service if it’s within our means even if it’s beyond our job scope. This helps our clients understand that we are not solely here to make the sale and to be only for profits and personal gain.

Being a FC has taught me a lot of financial knowledge that I can apply in my own life as well as impart to those we interact with even if it’s beyond that of insurance and investments but finances as a whole. It also opened me up to interactions and opportunities that were seemingly impossible to come by.

My own experiences in life are vast, it puts me in a position where I had to know and learn everything from the ground up. Being of a young age, I am knowledgeable about everything revolving around the responsibilities and liabilities of growing up as well as the fear and problems that people might face at a later age because I had to act in my dad’s position within my family as he suffered from a stroke and he was the sole breadwinner of the family. It allows us to foretell the future and prepare my clients for the possibilities of problems that they might face in the future, allowing them to always be prepared.
