In the financial advisory industry for 9 years now, one of the key reasons why I joined was that I lost my dad at a very young age, and my mum had to shoulder the burden of raising 3 kids by herself. My dad had no insurance and didn’t leave behind a will, and it was a tough period for my mum. I had the opportunity to explore this career when a relative approached me, and through the experience, I came to realise how proper financial planning was very important and that not many people around me actually knew much about it.

A career that has built stronger relationships
Being a financial consultant has helped me value-add not only to those around me but to myself as well. Since joining the financial advisory industry, it has helped me become a more extroverted person and helped me communicate better with my family and friends. This allowed me the opportunity to know them better through our interactions.

Always be adaptable.
We shouldn’t assume that our roles will stay relevant forever, and as things are everchanging, we should also be constantly adapting and be at the forefront to be able to value-add to our clients.

Have integrity.
I believe that integrity is one value that every financial consultant should have. We are dealing with people and money. If there’s no integrity, it’s impossible to build trust and build a career out of it.
