TAY YONG JUN DANIEL
ADVISORS ALLIANCE GROUP
I come from a family of 6, including 3 sisters. Both of my parents earned decent wages and always did their best to provide for us. However, something happened 7 years ago that made me realise the importance of having insurance. My youngest sister was diagnosed with a brain condition when she was 12 years old and she had no insurance coverage then. We consulted multiple doctors and specialists only to find out that surgery would cost about $100,000 with no certainty of success. I knew that I had to do better. Being the only son in the family, I thought that if anything were to happen to my sister, I should be able to take care of her long after my parents aren’t around. I was only 21 then, still taking my diploma in EEE with no insurance knowledge. While serving in the army, I enrolled myself on an entrepreneurship platform comprising a panel of serial entrepreneurs. I stayed there for about 2 years, where I learnt the principle of always paying attention to your customers’ needs, and focusing on their interests. In 2018, a friend of mine introduced me to the financial advisory industry. His mentor, Isaac Pung, spoke to me about AAG and its people. He shared with me how AAG focuses on service — servicing the clients’ needs, and focusing on their interests. It resonated strongly with me, and I’ve been here ever since.
Seek inspiration from your clients.
The trust and support from my clients inspire me to continue to be better and do better. I want to be able to reciprocate their trust in kind and continue providing value to others.
The future is unexpected.
I always share that my parents were a good example of the need for financial planning. We lived decently but failed to plan for the future or the unexpected. When the unexpected happened, it brought huge amounts of emotional and mental stress. These are things that I would never want the people around me to experience, and that is why I always highlight and emphasise the importance of good budgeting and spending habits. Having those 2 things really goes a long way.
Create a good impact in others’ lives.
To be in this industry, you need to have a heart that is willing to learn and have the interest to share the knowledge you’ve gained. Be humble, be kind, and be genuine. Most importantly, give it your all!
