TAY YEE YONG EDVWIN

EDVWIN-LNF ORGANISATION
KIN GROUP
I joined the financial advisory industry in January 2014, and having been promoted to Director in January 2022, I often joke that I’ve been in this field longer than most marriages in Singapore last — and I plan to stay until my kids have kids. My entry into this profession was somewhat serendipitous. After completing national service, I wasn’t sure of my next steps, but my secodary school friend Lucas, who has since become a group director at KinGroup, convinced me to join him. His persuasive skills played a big part in my decision.

The greatest goal in my career is to be like my group director, Lucas. The timeline for achieving this depends on how quickly I can inspire and lead others to join and grow with me in this journey. Throughout my career, I’ve learned many lessons, both as an agent and as a leader. As an agent, the most valuable lesson was the importance of saving most of the commissions I earned. This financial discipline has served me well over the years. As a leader, I’ve learned that it’s crucial to treat each agent uniquely and pay close attention to their individual needs and motivations.

What keeps me motivated is seeing my agents achieve their personal and professional goals. Their success and happiness are what drive me to be a better leader each day. For new financial consultants entering this industry, remember that dreams without goals are just dreams, and they ultimately fuel disappointment. Achieving your goals requires discipline and consistency. Without discipline, you will never start, and without consistency, you will never finish.

For those considering a career in financial advisory, I often pose a challenging question: Are you willing to eat rejection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? This career is rewarding, but it demands resilience and the ability to face and learn from rejection. In recruitment, the most important traits I look for in potential financial consultants are discipline and focus. These qualities are essential because this career path is filled with ups and downs, and maintaining a steady focus is crucial to navigating it successfully.
