I’ve always been keen on exploring the financial advisory industry since I was a student at polytechnic, but was discouraged by my parents due to past bad experiences with financial consultants. After leaving the air force due to a back injury, financial advisory sparked my interest once again and I decided to venture into the financial advisory industry. Though the support was not great at the beginning, I felt this was something I would have regretted not trying once in my life. Since then, I have never once looked back and o this day, this is still the best decision I’ve made. I can confidently say that I’m now living my best life doing what I’ve always set out to do and accomplish.

A career more complex than it seems
I believe that eventually, financial consulting will be seen at the same level of importance as doctors and lawyers. This is because many people are unaware that the job scope of a financial consultant is more complex than it seems. The process of providing a detailed analysis and solution for our clients is no different from a doctor prescribing the right medication to their patients. With the growing importance of financial literacy, I do see the barrier to entry getting higher for financial consultants in the next 5 to 10 years.

Always be professional
I hope to make potential financial consultants realise their potential and bring it up to a higher level, especially in their professionalism. Financial consultants are trusted to provide the best solutions to meet their clients’ financial needs through investments and insurance, and this requires deep knowledge and expertise. I strongly believe that all financial consultants should upgrade themselves constantly to provide the best holistic financial planning for their clients.

A people’s business
Financial consultants are often deeply involved in the personal lives of our clients. As such, it is important to always be that friend who not only helps them with their finances but also someone who they can trust and confide in and this will bring immense job satisfaction.
