QUEK YONG HONG OWEN
ASCENDANCE WEALTH MANAGEMENT GROUP
Prior to this transition, I enjoyed a comfortable position in corporate banking, drawing a monthly salary of about $7,000. However, the lure of financial consultancy, which I had previously declined, became undeniable as I reassessed my career priorities. My contemplation led me to value the aspects of personal satisfaction and the direct impact I could have on individuals’ financial health, prompting me to join AIA FA.
One of the most significant achievements in my career was reaching the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) qualification in just over five months, a testament to my dedication and the robust support system provided by my mentors, Wilfred Wong and Darren Chia from Ascendance Wealth Management. Not only have they guided me professionally, but they have also become great friends and integral to my success in this new role.
For those new to the financial consultancy field, it is crucial to maintain an open mind and be willing to experiment with different skills and approaches. The nature of this self-employed role demands high self-discipline and a proactive attitude towards personal and professional development.
When recruiting new financial consultants, I look for individuals who are not only open-minded but also intrinsically motivated. It’s important that they thrive in a competitive yet supportive environment where they can be challenged and in turn, challenge others for mutual growth. One of the biggest challenges in recruitment is overcoming the prevalent “safe than sorry” mindset, which tends to close doors to the dynamic opportunities that a career in financial consultancy can offer.
