Back in 2014, I switched careers after spending 10 years in the information technology field. I was inspired by my wife, who joined the industry earlier and doubled her income within the first 6 months despite being an introvert.

As an extrovert, I felt I would be able to perform just as well, if not better. After meeting Sunny and the team at AAG who cemented my decision to embark on this career for life, the rest is history.

Deepening relationships with family and friends.

This career has allowed me the capacity to deepen relationships with family and friends, and also have the time flexibility to be physically with them as and when required. In fact, many old friends have commented to me that this career path made me a much better friend to everyone! We are also imbued with the knowledge and power to save loved ones from financial disasters, and thus, I view this career as a very sacred one.

Determine who you are working for.

When people ask me who I’m working for, I would unwaveringly tell them it’s for my ageing parents and in-laws. The longer I am in this career, the more positive impact I can create to both our families.

Every client is unique.

This career enables me to learn about every person’s unique financial situation. As a financial consultant, it is my responsibility to know how to interpret and flesh out the clients’ thinking process behind their financial decisions. Thus, our roles are crucial as skills are required to provide the right advice and guidance.

Be disciplined and strong of mind.

I believe all financial consultants should be disciplined and strong of mind amidst all the societal distractions we face today. Work hard to achieve the life goals you set out for yourself, and constantly remind yourselves of the reason why you joined this career.

Though searching for a team player who is popular, willing to impact lives positively, coachable, and disciplined is challenging, I’m sure that as long as we never stop sharing how this career shapes character and growth for everyone, we will overcome this challenge.

I think one important aspect for any financial advisor is whether they can build a level of trust and comfort between themselves and the client. I definitely feel that from Barry.
