I chose to explore this career after feeling jaded in my previous job, seeking more experience and flexibility. Since joining AIAFA in June 2021, I have enjoyed the freedom to pursue my hobbies in the outdoors and learned to manage my own work schedules effectively.

Discipline is consistent. Motivation is fleeting.
For anyone looking to join the financial advisory industry, I would caution them to take the time to develop priceless values such as personal strength and character. The most important trait all FCs should have is humility. We earn from our clients, and we owe everything to our clients. We are nothing without them, and should always have their interests at heart.

Professionalism is a key trait for success
The journey to success for a FC is not going to be easy, nor is it going to be quick money. It may look like a wonderful life from the outside, but the challenges are lesser known. I believe the most important trait for success is to remain professional in our work. In an environment where everyone is young, it is easy to lose ourselves and forget that this is a professional work environment. Being professional helps others view our job in a better light too and I hope the industry as a whole can raise from the negative stigma it sometimes receives.

You are more than an FC, you are a friend.
I pride myself on maintaining a great relationship with my clients, even helping them find new jobs, taking them on adventures and once, even helping with their marriage proposal! But my favourite memory in my career to date has to be when my client’s son refused to let go of me after I sent them home. He continued hugging me and had to be peeled away to be returned to his mother.
