HARRY KEE POH CHUAN-LEONG FOO KAI ORGANISATION
ADVISORS ALLIANCE GROUP

I come from a middle-class family, and during my younger days, I tended to take things for granted. The wake up call came when my father was diagnosed with cancer many years back; he was the sole breadwinner, and had to take a long leave from work. The medical bills incurred was a shock, but thankfully, my father had believed in the need for insurance, and had himself covered.

Since then, I realised the importance of getting covered, and became an advocate of insurance. My father has since fully recovered, but not many are as fortunate as my family was. I’ve seen a few of my friends, acquaintances and relatives have their lives turned upside down because of illness, as they did not have the right planning.

Becoming a financial consultant then seemed to be the perfect job, so that I may educate my family, relatives and friends on the importance of financial planning.

Never neglect time management.

Most talk about having empathy, compassion and integrity in conducting themselves as financial consultants, but one thing that this career has really taught me is to become more aware of time management. We are entrepreneurs of our own right in this business, and we should be accountable to ourselves by doing our jobs right and manage our own schedules well.

With flexible time management, this career has also given me the flexibility of doing the things I love, and spending more time with my family members.

A career that welcomes anybody with open arms.

Interestingly, financial consulting is not the first job many people undertake. In fact, you’ll be surprised at how many mid-career switchers enter the financial advisory industry after taking up other jobs. Perhaps they had wanted to have a feel of what it’s like working in an MNC before becoming a financial consultant.

However, this is an industry that is very welcoming to mid-career switchers, and we welcome individuals from all walks of life who want to take that leap of faith towards impacting the lives around them.

Have integrity, compassion and competence.

These are the basic pillars that every financial consultant should conduct themselves with, with no exceptions. We owe it to our clients, and to ourselves, to be responsible in executing our duties, and providing the best financial advice in the interests of our clients before ourselves.
