I was in the digital space selling online advertisement spaces and made the career switch four years ago to become a financial consultant. What excited me to join the insurance industry was a book that my insurance agent handed me, ‘Richest Man in Babylon’. There was only one principle I got out from the book which was to pay myself first, saving 10 percent of everything I earn.

With that principle, I quickly applied it in my life and found out that it was a mind-blowing principle to live by. I only realized this when I was 25 year old and wish I had discovered this earlier! My life’s mission is a journey to help others discover the “Seven Cures for a Lean Purse” so that they won’t say they wished they knew this earlier.

I am an International Dragon Award (IDA) awardee 2018 and 2019, and have also qualified for Convention Trips 2016 to 2019.

Having a “never say die attitude”.

Many things keep me motivated as a financial consultant and these include my drive, perseverance with a ‘never say die’ attitude, creativity and my desire to share financial literacy with clients of all ages.

Giving more than financial advice.

A best friend, a go-to person for any financial hacks or ‘lobangs’ (opportunities and resources), a listener, a relationship advisor, an inspiration, a miles chaser, a mahjong kaki (mah-jong player) and many more are just some of the many varied roles I have played in the lives of my clients aside from providing them with sound financial advice.

Authenticity is essential in this industry.

I believe that sincerity, by being genuine and real, is what helps create trust with my clients. It often leads to an authentic conversation over lunch or dinner on their life story and just the feeling of being able to share what they think and feel without being judged is a wonderful feeling for my clients. I believe that is my biggest unique selling point in that my clients can see how authentic and sincere I am and it fosters a genuine connection with each of them. My clients will then become my friends and they appreciate that a lot!

Representing Singapore through my career.

My proudest accolade I’ve achieved so far definitely has to be the agency goal to attain 100 International Dragon Award in 2018. As a young boy, I’ve always wanted to represent Singapore in a game or a sport. You can call that patriotism but that was the only reason why I would take down that award and it gives me great satisfaction to have been able to achieve it.
