When I was about to complete my national service, I was fortunate enough to have met my introducer, Brendan, who was the same age as my older brother. As I continued to interact with him, I realised that he was way more mature than my brother in terms of mindset, the way he carried himself, and also the income that he was earning. I asked for his mentorship and guidance to become financially independent and also about entrepreneurship, which was what led me down this path.

A career that lets you grow professionally and personally.

Becoming a financial consultant has allowed me to develop my character because, in this business, I am exposed to a diverse group of clients. I learn all about their various struggles, and also the different mindsets and strategies they adopted to overcome obstacles in their lives.

The growing importance of financial planning.

We’re fortunate to grow up in a country like Singapore with its strong governance which is one of the least corrupt countries in the world. With a high literacy rate and Singaporeans getting savvier about financial matters, people are thankfully becoming more aware of how important financial planning is. This makes the role we play even more important in this era.

Have compassion for people.

It takes a lot of patience and understanding before we can plan out our clients’ finances to reach their goals. Only when we plan with our hearts, can we provide them with the best solution in their best interests. Having compassion also allows us to take care of fellow consultants around us, supporting and reminding them of our mission here, even on the worst days when we get multiple rejections.
