I studied Materials Science and Engineering at NTU but instead of pursuing a career as an engineer, I decided to join the financial advisory industry after I was introduced to AAG through my IO. AAG provided a welcoming and safe space to explore this career path and let me see the potential benefits of being able to provide for my family and achieve my own goals so I made the decision to embark on this journey with AIAFA in 2021.
The most rewarding moment of my career was when I cleared my first MDRT after going through so many ups and downs together with my peers. It felt as though my hard work has finally paid off and I’m deserving of the award. Being a part of a team, going on convention trips with my peers and to places that I had never been before also created great memories of this journey as we played hard and worked even harder together.
My goal is to eventually have 300 clientele and year on year have breakthroughs on my own goals and achievements. I hope to achieve Court of the Table by the 3rd year of my time in this career. I intend to achieve it by constantly having new values to provide for the people around me such that I can bring the financial advisory work that I do to a new level of professionalism. I hope that more people in Singapore can start to see the value of financial planning and not shun what is beneficial for them just because they do not want to meet a pushy advisor.
My parents and the people around me, those who believe in me and trust that I can do well and my clients who trusted me with their portfolio – these remain my biggest motivation to pursue this career. Being a FC has allowed me to see life from different perspectives. It helped me to gain a bigger vision of the world and what exactly I can achieve in life. It is as though my horizon has been amplified. Financially it has also helped me to pay off my student loan and bring my parents to places that we have never been to before.
The most important traits one needs to find success in this career would be to have morals and to have the right values. Because these are guiding principles in our lives and what keeps us fit and proper at all times. Other than being their FC, I play the role of my clients’ friend, family member and someone they can depend on when they face problems. Sometimes I even act as the bridge between parents and their kids to ensure that love is spread around.
The most important trait I look for in potential FCs is the attitude to learn and give their best in life. This constitutes Drive. With drive, and a right attitude, our potential is limitless and we can go very far in life and also influence the people around us to go far as well. My biggest challenge would be getting people to be open-minded and explore new things in life and having the courage to move away from the norm.
