I joined AIAFA in 06/2020. At that time, with my dad’s worsening health and a lack of retirement funds, becoming a financial advisor seemed like the most appealing choice for me to support my family. Gaining strong financial literacy allowed me to plan optimal financial strategies for my family, and my clients as well. This has allowed me to steer my clients towards the path of financial freedom, whilst avoiding the potential financial mistakes that many people make, essentially providing value to my clients in the most impactful way possible.

The most rewarding moment in my career was achieving the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) just two days before the year 2022 ended. Thanks to 4 months of sprinting, I successfully managed to achieve my first MDRT ever, which I previously thought impossible.

My clients and my family keep me motivated. To deliver greater value to my clients, I would have to continually improve my knowledge in the areas of products, financial markets and the like. Having the ability to take care of my family without worrying too much about money pushes me to work harder as well.

The greatest influence in my career as a FC would be my IO, Yap Xinhorng. Throughout my journey, I’ve had many down moments. Nonetheless, Xinhorng never once gave up on me and tried his utmost best to spur me on, even when I was not responsive.

Thanks to the continual chase of knowledge and gaining a wealth of perspectives from prospects and clients, being a FC has allowed me to gain greater clarity on my life’s future financial milestones. It has also trained me to be more well-spoken, patient, and perseverant in the face of adversity.

The most important trait that I think all FCs should have is compassion. Without compassion for our prospects or clients, we are just chasing the FYC and not genuinely looking out for their future/finances. New FCs should learn to build resilience in this career. Hard work may not always pay off immediately, but gritting your teeth and pushing through all the low moments will bring you results one day.
