I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, and just like most fresh graduates, I started out in a 9-5 job as a consultant in management systems in a training academy. I realised the working environment and nature of the job didn’t suit my personality, and I saw myself needing to drag myself to work every day. Not wanting to settle for a life like that anymore, I started looking at other options and chanced upon financial consulting.

Not only am I able to work hard for my own paycheck, I am also able to educate and serve the community with financial planning advice. With the opportunities I’ve had so far in my 5-year career, I can say that I’ve never regretted my choice!

This career has its merits on a personal level, such as time flexibility and financial rewards, but my job satisfaction comes from knowing that my clients are well-protected, and that I’ve had a hand in preparing them for their future.

I strongly encourage new financial consultants to be coachable, fast learners and hardworking, because that is what it takes to stand out from the crowd. This career is not easy, but if you succeed, you will experience transformation in your personal growth, as well as give you tremendous satisfaction.

Trust is a very important factor in this business, and the most rewarding moments in my career so far have been the times when my clients trust my service enough to refer their family and friends to me. This, to me, is what it means to succeed at your job as a financial consultant.
