I embarked on my journey as a financial consultant in March 2023, joining the vibrant and challenging world of financial advisory. My academic background is in biological sciences at NTU, but I’ve always wanted to do something different as facing four walls in a lab did not excite nor fulfill me.

Plus, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to not just earn a living but to create a significant and impactful life for myself and my loved ones. In my first two years as an undergraduate, I explored various ventures, including starting up F&B businesses, which provided me with a real taste of entrepreneurship. These experiences, though challenging, were invaluable. They taught me about the harsh realities of managing businesses, including marketing, sales, and human resources, while balancing my studies.

The turning point came when I was introduced to the financial services industry by friends who were already making their mark as successful consultants. Their insights and success stories resonated with me deeply, prompting me to see financial consulting as a perfect blend of my interests in making a meaningful impact, networking, and dictating my own work-life balance. This career required no initial capital, which was advantageous, and offered the potential for substantial rewards commensurate with the effort put in.

The most rewarding part of this career thus far is being able to challenge the status quo. Without a doubt, this industry is plagued with a certain stigma, that I willingly embrace and strive to change. The many clients I’ve been blessed to work with this year has, own their own accord, expressed to me how I’ve changed their perspective and provided them personal value. This proved to me that as a financial consultant, we could still play a meaningful and impactful role in the lives on those around us, beyond the transactional purchase of solutions.

My inspiration largely comes from within my team, particularly mentors like Daniel Heng and Yan Jiao, whose guidance has been pivotal in my career development. From the emotional support, to the professional providence, I’ve been blessed with such a successful team that has and will continue to ground my identity and character, and point me in the direction that will allow me to continue to succeed better.
